Following the success of the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer, the City of Lights offers a rich program of events for collectors and art lovers.
From September 10 to 15, the Parcours des Mondes (Worlds Trail) brings together some fifty galleries in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district. Having become the most important international event dedicated to the arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas, it showcases unique and exceptional works. Members of the SNA (the leading French association in these fields) share their passion and expertise.
As top international specialists, they are meticulous about provenance and highly skilled in the field of art appraisal. The guarantees they offer collectors are far more secure than those offered by auction houses.
Then, starting September 18, Opus - Ancient Arts and Collections Carré Rive Gauche, two unmissable events, will further solidify Paris's position as the leading European capital of the art market.
In this busy autumn season, the SNA (French National Art Union) remains mindful, however, that the numerous regulatory constraints imposed on dealers and collectors to engage with subjects often laudable in substance but ill-suited in form could disrupt the art market. I am thinking in particular of the new European directive, applicable from next year, restricting the importation of antiquities into the European Union. Ensuring provenance during acquisitions, yes of course – and SNA members make sure of this – but penalizing European collectors and ultimately impoverishing institutions and museums through dwindling donations, no!
The SNA remains vigilant and proactive, and, bolstered by its momentum with 25 new members recently joining its ranks, is organizing this fall season with determination, serving galleries and art lovers alike.
