In this new edition, the SNA, in partnership with Le Journal des Arts, takes a closer look at the highlights of the autumn season, including Parcours des Mondes, Parcours de la Céramique, Fine Arts Paris, Moderne Art Fair, Art Basel Paris, Frieze London & Masters and Antica Namur.

The issue also addresses several major concerns for the profession: the proposed legislation on art forgery, the growing challenges surrounding import-export procedures and the international movement of works of art, as well as the new tools and services developed by the SNA to support its members.

Editorial: A New Framework for the World of Tomorrow

In a world undergoing profound change and constantly being reshaped by the exponential acceleration of technology, it is essential that we adapt our legislative and regulatory framework. This is all the more necessary given that the law protecting the public against forgery in the field of art dates back to 1895 — a very different era, when it would have been impossible to foresee either the complexity of artistic creation today or the development of a globalised art market.

Over the past century, developments have been such that even the very notion of forgery now needs to be entirely reconsidered. Artificial intelligence, in particular, is forcing us to fundamentally reassess the question of artistic ownership. It is in this context that the SNA took part in the hearings conducted by Senator Bernard Fialaire and strongly supports his proposed legislation. After some delays inherent in the parliamentary process, the bill aims to establish a legislative framework that is both more stringent towards those committing fraud and more protective of the public, whether artists, collectors or simply art enthusiasts. With the presidential election only a few months away, it is important to note that this is a cross-party initiative and is not intended to favour any particular political group.

It is in this same spirit that the SNA carries out its work throughout the year, with some laws needing to be strengthened and others genuinely eased.
