The Syndicat National des Antiquaires et Galeries d'Art immediately took up the issue of the new customs duties announced by Donald Trump, which directly affect French antique dealers and art galleries exporting to the United States or due to exhibit there shortly, such as at TEFAF New York, scheduled to take place in one month.
We immediately contacted the French Ministry of Culture and CINOA, and asked our lawyer, Maître Pierre Valentin, a recognised expert in legal matters relating to the international art trade, to analyse the consequences of this new customs duty regime.
Based on our current understanding of this U.S. decision, there is unfortunately no doubt that the impact could be very significant for many of us.
