Reconsidering Still Life

This autumn, HÉLÈNE BAILLY MARCILHAC Gallery presents Reconsidering Still Life in the 20th Century: a journey through a century of artistic transformation, built around approximately thirty works. From Auguste Renoir to Fernand Léger, including Félix Vallotton, Konstantin Korovin, and Zao Wou-Ki, the exhibition restores depth, materiality, and meaning to a genre long underestimated.

Behind the apparent simplicity of fruits, flowers, or everyday objects, the artists reveal themes of the sacred, the passage of time, and rich symbolic meaning. To extend this narrative, the gallery also presents contemporary artists such as Clémentine de Chabaneix and Julie Hamisky, artists and granddaughters of Claude Lalanne. Far from being static, still life emerges here as a profoundly living genre.
