ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: ANTICIPATING THE INEVITABLE
We are only at the beginning, but we are there: AI has entered our lives, and at breakneck speed!
Regarding our profession, I can't help but think back to the time when only certain galleries had a website, and were viewed with suspicion by the others.
Today, the same is true for artificial intelligence, and we must not miss this opportunity. This is precisely the point the French Art Dealers Association (SNA) wanted to make of the AI roundtable organized at the Guimet Museum [see p. 4]: to anticipate the inevitable. In other words, this means sharing experiences, explaining, training, and providing support. Precisely the role of an association that looks to the future.
Perhaps, in people's minds, a union defending antique dealers and galleries might seem conservative in this area.
Perhaps the SNA wasn't expected to be involved in this, but we're undoubtedly overlooking how much the renewal of members, drawn from new generations, has also broadened the range of topics and needs.
AI is a fantastic facilitator in terms of research, that much is clear. It's equally conceivable that it could provide gallery owners and art dealers with assistance in data management and performance optimization. Imagine a booth of about fifty square meters at a fair, with fifteen or twenty paintings: AI could help provide valuable information on visitor flow, the ideal layout, and even the logistics... However, we don't see AI as an end in itself, but as a tool. And if there is one area where artificial intelligence will not replace humans anytime soon, it is certainly that of taste and emotion.
