Between 1857 and the end of the 1860s, from boarder at the Villa Medicis to official sculptor of the Second Empire, Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux produced in a dozen years most of his work: the Neapolitan Fisherman, Ugolin and three monumental sculptures that are among the successes of the discipline: the Triumph of Flora in the Louvre, the Fountain of the Obsevatoire and the Dance of the Garnier Opera
